A priority partnership agreement was signed between RUSLOM.COM and the Bureau of Middle East Recycling, UAE

During a business trip of Russian scrap collectors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), organised by the National Recycling Association RUSLOM.COM from May 14-18, 2024, an agreement on a priority partnership was concluded between the Association and the Bureau of Middle East Recycling (BMR).

The companies “BusinessOrbita”, “Vtormet”, “Intermettrade”, “Metalltorg”, Rating Agency “Rusmet”, “SGMK” took part in the ceremony of signing the agreement on the Russian side; from the UAE – Aboura Metals, Eurogulf Minerals and Metals FZCO, Jupiter Metals Trading LLC, The Nile Metals.

The business trip is dedicated to studying the experience in the field of processing the scrap of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, electronic scrap and batteries.

As part of the agreement, RUSLOM.COM and BMR intend to promote cooperation between companies operating in Russia and the UAE to coordinate and ensure their common interests, increase their competitiveness, strengthen their professional potential and manage a network of economic, professional and knowledge-based systems of international scale for the development of recycling industries and economies of both Russia and the UAE.

The partners who signed the agreement also aim to expand the system of interaction between member companies of their industry associations in the domestic and international markets, as well as create opportunities for cooperation with foreign enterprises and the development of new markets.

The parties will achieve their goals as follows:

  • organisation of meetings, scientific conferences, seminars, internships, exchange of experience;
  • measures to popularise and improve the business reputation of the recycling industry, as well as to achieve carbon neutrality and the disposal of “green” waste;
  • development of international cooperation.

Among the main areas and instruments of cooperation that make up the signed agreement are the following:

  • Promoting the development of the recycling industry in both countries, implementing professional cooperation between specialised Russian companies and UAE enterprises;
  • Increasing the efficiency, volume and quality of recycling processes in Russia and the UAE, including in relation to the production of industrial raw materials from waste;
  • Active exchange of information on technical developments and innovations in the field of recycling;
  • Organising visits to companies for the purpose of exchanging experience and development;
  • Promoting the professional training of young managers;
  • Carrying out a constant exchange of experience on issues of lawmaking, standardisation and regulations, taxation, environmental standards and control (management) systems;
  • Monitoring of international trends, participation in international professional exhibitions, based on events organised by partners of the agreement;
  • Cooperation in the development of auto recycling.

During the trip of Russian scrap producers to the UAE, as part of a busy program, the participants already visited the company Al Asfaran Steel, Masonery & Aluminum Smelting LLC. The company, a major exporter and importer of recyclable materials, is engaged in the production of steel structures, aluminum and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. The main activity of Al Asfaran Steel, Masonery & Aluminum Smelting LLC is the processing of aluminum scrap.

Delegates also visited PGI, a leading recycler of ferrous and non-ferrous metals scrap in the UAE and specialising in waste management. PGI purchases, processes and sells a variety of scrap metals, including aluminum, copper, wire and cable, brass, lead, nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steel and zinc.

According to the programme, the next visit is planned to the Ni Met Recycling FZ enterprise, specialising in the processing of stainless steel scrap, heat-resistant stainless steel alloys, chromium steel and other metals suitable for recycling.

Significant points of the program will be negotiations at the Dubatt and Sasra Metal FZC enterprises. Dubatt is the first fully integrated waste lead acid battery (ULAB) battery recycling plant in the UAE, with the capacity to process up to 50,000 metric tons per year, one of the largest facilities in the region. In turn, Sasra Metal FZC is a new aluminum processing plant, equipped with a modern air emission treatment system.

The National Recycling Association RUSLOM.COM regularly organizes business trips and business missions for Russian metal scrap professionals and metallurgists to friendly/neutral countries, helping entrepreneurs develop new markets, conclude trade deals, and form technological partnerships. Thus, among the permanent partner countries of the Association are China, India, Turkey, the UAE, Iran and a number of other relevant geographical areas.

BMR is established as a non-profit, non-religious, non-political organisation representing all suppliers/traders of the Middle East recycling industry, uniting them on a single platform and placing scrap metal recycling at the core of its agenda. Recycling business in the Middle East, environmental protection, exchange of market information on metal recycling and problem solving during the financial crisis form the basis of the organisation’s activities.

BMR acts as a regional forum and voice for the recycling industry in the Middle East.

The Bureau exists as a coalition of various recyclers and recycling depots, striving to increase awareness of recycling in the region, turning waste into industrial raw materials while conserving natural resources.

BMR involves strengthening collaboration between suppliers in the Middle East, traders and consumers around the world.
